Finite element analysis of flexural response of steel joist top chord extensions

چکیده

This article investigates the flexural response of cantilevered top chord extensions open web steel joists used in building structures. Currently, no design guidance is available to assess bending capacity these members with consideration local and lateral-torsional buckling failure modes. The objective study was develop a numerical finite element model capable predicting behaviour 13 joist tested previous experimental program. specimens studied have different cross-sections restraint conditions. Residual stresses geometric imperfections were included models. To achieve good correlation test results terms ultimate strength, mechanism moment-deflection response, had include spacers between individual members, load distribution system supporting beam tests, as well translational springs simulating lateral torsional restraining effects deck panels. developed reliably predict measured capacities modes specimens. It also permitted confirm that panels can positively impact extensions.
